The end of the year is an ideal time to reflect and evaluate what you’d like your life to look like this time next year. If your plans include going after your dream job, prepare yourself well before you start sending out resumes by doing the following:
1. Be Smarter About Your Social Media Usage
Most people know to be careful what they post on social media in the months prior to looking for a new job. After all, you want to present yourself in the best light possible, not have your prospective employer sift through your “dirty laundry.” However, Money magazine advises taking your social media skills up a notch and letting all of your social media contacts know about your search. They also suggest turning the tables on your interviewer and researching him or her on social media, so you have a better idea of how to interact with him or her.
2. Optimize Your Resume
Many companies that take in a lot of resumes use a software program to scan resumes and weed out the ones that don’t meet the required criteria. Unfortunately, sometimes a good candidate can also get eliminated in this process. Avoid this happening to you, advises Mashable, by getting rid of images and graphics, using a common, no-frills font, and eliminating any irrelevant information.
