USVI (part 2) – Best Dives

It’s Week Two in the US Virgin Islands (you can read about Week One here) and we’ve relocated to a rental house near the Mountain Top and it’s World Famous Banana Daiquiri. The view alone makes it difficult to leave the balcony overlooking the rear patio pool. Contemplating real estate and full-time residency over my morning coffee has become part of my routine… but this week is all about underwater adventure and the USVI promises to be incredible. Downtime between dives allows for some additional exploration including a retreat to Magens Bay, hailed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (and the bay immediately below our balcony). This area gets a little crowded but the beachside bar and grill provides the flexibility...

USVI (part 1) – 3 Things You Can Do Right Now to Make a Change

I’m in the USVI for Shark Week (this isn’t intentional, but I’m going with it). Admittedly, it’s more vacation than adventure this week, but sometimes it’s good to get away – and this is a great place to do so – even if only for an extended weekend. Sometimes thinking in ways that set you apart from others begins by actually getting away from others. I’m a traveler and in a sense, pursuing new experiences and encouraging/assisting others to do the same is my day-job. How then do I take a break? I travel of course! (just not with a group). So for the next two weeks I’m attempting to flesh out some working ideas, catching some Caribbean sunshine, and talk to myself as much...

Dolomites Part 2

It’s week number two in the South Tyrol (you can read Week One here) and we’re in the Dolomites for the hiking (and the food… and the beer… and the people… again, see Part One). This portion of our trip has been organized by my brother-in-law and sister-in-law – expat digital nomads who contribute and support one another’s projects. She’s a virtual tour guide for Iceland, helping people plan amazing experiences through web resources, guide books, courses, and a very active Facebook Group. He’s a photo + video creator a “world tour” in search of other melon heads with great travel stories. You can also follow their discoveries and world travels together on Instagram here. I learned so much from them this week! And I...

Dolomites Part 1

We’re in the South Tyrol region of Italy – two hours north of Venice progressing towards the Austrian border – and the little Fiat rental is beginning to voice some struggle. Corkscrew inclines, as if spliced from a James Bond movie, have me shifting in my seat and grasping for secure handholds. They’ll be no sleeping on the remainder of this car ride. The Adriatic coast feels far away, distanced first by a wide highway and shallow sea plain, and now slipping further below the horizon with each narrow switchback along the ridgeline. This is the terrain we’re here for – dramatic rock pinnacles, towers and table mountains overwhelming our windshield view. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009 due to their global uniqueness,...
